Product questions & answers

What is an ESD cable step cover?

A cable step cover provides a raised walking surface over cable bundles. The DeSmet 103-100 helps protect cables and reduce trip hazards along wall perimeters and between workstations, test cabinets, and sensitive hardware. Conductive leveling feet integrate with your facility’s ESD-control system.

How large is the 103-100 fixed-top cable cover?

The standard unit measures 36 × 24 × 9.5 inches (914 × 610 × 241 mm) overall and weighs 34 lb (15.4 kg). Include your cable-bundle dimensions and required clearance in your quote request so we can confirm the fit.

What is the recommended load for the fixed-top cable step cover?

The maximum recommended load is 500 lb, with safety factor. Share your loading requirements with DeSmet when selecting a standard or custom configuration.

Does this cable cover need conductive flooring and grounding?

No. The cover is designed with special ESD leveling feet for use in ESD protected areas (EPAs), and non-ESD footing can also be supplied. For EPA applications, follow your facility’s flooring and grounding requirements.

Should I choose a fixed-top or hinged cable step cover?

Choose the fixed-top 103-100 for a fixed walking surface above your cable run. Choose the opening-top 101-100 when you need to route, inspect, or change cables without moving the cover. Maximum recommended loads are 500 lb for 103-100 and 312 lb for 101-100.

Can I order a custom-size laboratory cable cover?

Yes. DeSmet can tailor dimensions, finishes, and hardware to your application. Options include alternate top materials, frame colors, foot types, serialization, and inspection reports. Send your footprint, cable clearance, loading, and ESD requirements for a custom quote.

What comes with the standard fixed-top cable cover?

The standard configuration includes an assembled blue powder-coated steel frame, a 1/8-inch aluminum diamond-tread top, and conductive leveling feet.

Where is the fixed-top cover used?

The 103-100 is designed for indoor laboratory and fabrication environments. Typical layouts include wall-side cable runs and connections between test equipment, computer workstations, and hardware under test. Contact DeSmet about requirements for other environments.

Fixed top or opening top?

Compare ESD cable step covers by access, size, and recommended load. Both use conductive leveling feet and a diamond-tread aluminum top for controlled indoor workspaces.
