How to choose an ESD cable step cover

Protect your cable runs while keeping your workspace accessible. Choose a Cable Step Cover around the route, available floor space, loading, and access your team needs. Compare DeSmet’s fixed-top and opening-top models, then plan the configuration for your laboratory.

Choose the right access for your cable run

The fixed-top 103-100 provides a fixed diamond-tread walking surface above your cables. For cable routing, inspection, or changes without moving the cover, choose the opening-top 101-100 with its gas-strut-assisted hinged lid.

The opening-top model also includes a locking safety pin to help prevent lid movement during transportation. Follow the product handling instructions when securing and moving the cover.

Plan the route and confirm the fit

Typical layouts include a row of covers along a wall perimeter, a cable connection between test equipment and a computer workstation, or cables between a hardware test cabinet and sensitive hardware under test. Include the complete route in your quote request.

Both standard covers measure 36 × 24 × 9.5 inches (914 × 610 × 241 mm) overall. To confirm cable clearance, share the bundle size, connector dimensions, and available floor space. DeSmet can help match the standard or custom configuration to your layout.

  • Cable-bundle width and height, including connectors
  • Available floor footprint and cable route
  • Cable inspection and reconfiguration frequency
  • Space needed to open the lid

Select the load capacity for your application

Maximum recommended loads are 500 lb for the fixed-top 103-100 and 312 lb for the opening-top 101-100, each with safety factor.

Include your loading requirements with your quote request. Let us know about rolling equipment, outdoor service, or other special requirements so we can review the right configuration for the application.

Choose ESD or non-ESD footing

Both Cable Step Covers are designed with special ESD leveling feet for ESD protected areas (EPAs). Non-ESD footing can also be supplied, so you can select the configuration for your workspace.

For EPA applications, follow your facility’s flooring and grounding requirements. Frame-to-foot resistance in the ESD configuration is less than 2 Ω. Include your footing and ESD requirements when requesting a quote.

Tailor materials, finishes, and documentation

DeSmet can tailor dimensions, finishes, and hardware to your workflow. Options include alternate top materials or finishes, frame colors, foot types, serialization, and inspection reports.

For controlled or cleanroom environments, share your material, cleaning, and documentation requirements so we can review the configuration with your team.
